What you'll do
The Campus Security team strives for excellence in security monitoring and customer service support. You will meet, greet, and provide service to customers in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner. Equally an essential part of the job, you will enforce procedures to protect Viasat’s personnel, property, proprietary information, and U.S. Government information on company premises. This will include performing routine security and safety rounds, performing security checks, ensuring the integrity of our campus, and ensuring all visitors are badged and escorted as required. You will also monitor security and video surveillance systems for local and remote facilities. Members of the Security team support emergency response protocols and are expected to follow routine documented processes.
The day-to-day
- Perform duties as the senior Security Associate on the night shift
- You will lead a team of around 2 to 3 Security Associates during a shift
- Conduct a thorough shift briefing at the beginning of the shift. Review all post assignments and verify correct staffing and post rotation
- Communicate with on duty Campus Security staff to determine priorities and responsibilities for the shift
- Provide consistent, comprehensive training, and coaching to the shift as part of the department’s training program. Serve as a positive example to all team members by modeling Viasat’s visions and culture.
- Physically respond to all alarms on Campus in a safe and responsible manner
- Maintain accurate daily documented activities, DAR entries, and incident reports
- Staff the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) and/or front desk monitoring video surveillance, access control systems and alarms, and provide the appropriate responses
- Perform security rounds utilizing a checklist and escort visitors/contractors as needed
- Understand and enforce security and access control policies in a professional and personable manner
- Good interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of individuals
- Strong customer service skills. Must be able to work with customers and other visitors in a professional, courteous manner
- Advanced knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and operations particularly in the areas of security and administration and safety compliance
- Track and monitor global travel security of employees and escalate incidents as needed
- Act as the incident commander for all incidents that occur during the shift (medical, police, fire) and escalate if necessary
- Manage incidents as it arises and make decisions according to published Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and departmental policies
- Monitor staff attendance and provide input on scheduling in partnership with the Campus Security Coordinator
- Support the growth and development of the Campus Security team and identify recommendations to improve processes, policies, and procedures
What you'll need
- Has availability to work days, nights, weekends, and some holidays
- Experience monitoring video surveillance, access control systems and alarms, and provide the appropriate responses
- 1+ years’ experience in general security administration and support
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as general office equipment
- Ability to document security incidents and other events clearly and succinctly
- Be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance
- High School Diploma
- Valid CA driver’s license
- U.S. citizenship
What will help you on the job
- 1+ years’ experience in a lead or supervisory security role
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, relationship-building, problem solving, and teamwork skills
- Capability to work well under pressure and multi-task with the ability to adjust priorities in order to respond to urgent alarm conditions and events
- Knowledge of Lenel, Jira, and When2Work
- Experience with a visitor management and/or security management system
- Current US Government Secret clearance eligibility
- Education: AA/AS
Salary range
$18.2 - $28.94 / hourly
