As a team member for the System Operations group, the candidate will oversee and manage post COD sites in the real time operations center in Durham NC. This role will directly impact FlexGen's success by maximizing availability/uptime for many of the world’s leading-edge energy storage installations. To accomplish this, the system operations engineer will monitor equipment in real time for various end users in the utility and C&I space. Overtime will be required as needed. The ideal candidate is one that thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, where independent critical thinking and quick follow-on execution is highly valued.

Energy storage represents a multibillion-dollar market at the center of the energy transition. The integration of energy storage requires software and technological solutions that play a critical role in the adoption of renewables at scale—offsetting the intermittency and reliability challenges that renewable power generation creates for the grid. Since its founding in 2009, FlexGen has supported deployments of more than 3 GWh of energy storage systems across the U.S. and internationally for utility, microgrid, and C&I customers. The Company’s proprietary software platform allows energy storage owners to deploy various power market strategies and combine storage solutions with any form of generation.

Backed by a world-class group of investors including: founding investors Jerry Miller and Mark Dreyfus, legacy investors GE Venture and Caterpillar Ventures, an initial equity investment by venture capital firm Altria Group, a Series B led by Apollo Global Management, and a Series C led by Swiss investment firm Vitol with participation from all existing investors, FlexGen is poised to grow substantially and quite rapidly.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Remote monitoring and operation of energy storage sites (for both Utility scale and C&I deployments) in the remote operations center.

  • Identification and resolution of faults and alarms. Dispatching of field technicians and 3rd party maintenance providers.

  • Tracking customer support requests and requirements using the CMMS and various other tools.

  • Manage customer expectations and execute on long term service agreements.

  • Creation of battery health reports and maintenance reports for end users.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of BS degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field.

  • Minimum of 4 years of work experience as an engineer, technical project manager, IT support, or field engineer

  • Experience with CMMS (Salesforce Service Cloud is a plus)

  • Prior customer service / support roles.

  • Experience with various monitoring / analytics / SCADA tools.

  • Linux knowledge. The command line does not scare you.

  • Experience with TCP/IP networking, LAN and WAN configuration and security.

  • Experience with dispatching field technicians and 3rd party service providers.

  • Experience with renewable energy (solar, wind, and battery), industrial communications, and the building blocks / equipment associated.

  • Familiar with electrical single line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and network diagrams.

  • A track record of demonstrating a sense of urgency and a history of taking ownership of tasks/responsibilities.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in formal and informal settings, both internal and customer-related.

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • Ability to work cross functionally with Sales, Services, Procurement, and Software teams.

  • Exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills.

  • Capable of working without sponsorship (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder)

Desired Qualifications

  • Direct experience with power conversion systems, power system design, and energy storage products

  • Knowledge of NERC / CIP compliance

  • Experience with TCP/IP networking, LAN and WAN configuration and security.
